SUGAR
Alcove
November 2006 through April 2008
547 W. 27th St. 6th floor NY, NY
Formerly nestled in New York’s Chelsea art district Alcove was a cozy alternative exhibition space, where art came face to face with art, and the viewer.

Alcove has turned into SUGAR, a new place for art in Bushwick (Brooklyn, NY). SUGAR is not, however, a "Chelsea refugee". Far from it. While working in Chelsea I passed a particular hallway several times a day. I saw potential in that little alcove, an opportunity with low overhead, and so Alcove was founded. When I left the job in Chelsea I took Alcove with me.
I have lived in Bushwick since 2002. In the summer of 2007 I found the sweetest Cocker Spaniel roaming down Troutman Street. I named her Sugar. Missing Alcove, and all it embraced and inspired, I imagined an exhibition space in our home. I cleaned out a closet, consolidated my studio, sold lots of unnecessary objects on Craigslist, and made room for SUGAR (the art space). I have utilized available and unavailable real/fake estate since the early 90's to host my ideas of what art is, to me.
